Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid, And Here’s Why
By New York Times Bestselling Author Michael Levin
I was strolling through the Internet the other night and somehow wandered onto a page from the Department of Homeland Security, of all things, listing the honorees for the “Secretary’s Award for Unity of Effort.”
No thriller I’ve ever seen in a movie theater is nearly as scary as what I read on that page.
It appears that terrorists have been socially distancing themselves like the rest of us, so the world has been fairly quiet.
But those folks at Homeland Security are clearly staying up nights, thinking up ways that they might attack us and formulating plans to stop them.
The heartening thing about the website is the truly American mix of races, colors, creeds, and ethnicities in the photos and names of the honorees.
In other words, Homeland Security looks a lot like America.
So while you’ve been sheltering in place, here are the things they’ve gotten awards for and you cannot make this stuff up:
1. Soft Target & Crowded Places Security Plan Team:
“For leadership and exceptional teamwork in cataloguing and developing the Department of Homeland Security Soft Target and Crowded Places Security Plan, to support improved security of soft targets and crowded places.”
2. TSA No-Fly Coordination and Secure Flight Team:
“For coordination and collaboration in direct support of operations involving subjects on the No-Fly list, facilitating ongoing counterterrorism investigations, repatriation, and arrest operations.”
3. First Responder Fentanyl Exposure Team, which works out of the Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office:
“For convening a national-level meeting to address the mounting concerns of the two million strong national first responder community, in response to the growing Fentanyl epidemic.”
4. Huntville Interagency Cargo Team:
“For cooperation and communication in preventing and flagging an individual from boarding an international flight with highly concentrated sulfuric acid, intended harm family members, and a later attempt to enter the United States at the border.”
5. CBP Border Wall Acquisition & Program Management Team:
“For swiftly convening a multi-disciplinary team to develop the strategy for this complex, fast-paced and high-visibility project to build a wall on our southwest border to gain and maintain operational control of the border.”
6. NATIVE Operation Rocky Top Team:
“For implementing Operation Rocky Top to investigate the drug trafficking network of a cartel in the Arizona area, resulting in the reduction of smuggling sites and 477 indictments.”
These are just a few examples from the 2018 awards, and goodness knows what threats our friends at Homeland Security thought up for 2019 and this year.
I guess it pays to be prepared, but frankly, after reading all the threats that they are working to lock down, I’m more afraid than ever.
I just hope the bad guys don’t stumble onto the Secretary’s Award for Unity of Effort 2018 page the way I did.
It will just give put ideas in their heads.
