Memo To Joe Biden: Only One Woman Veep Can Beat Trump

Joe Biden has a woman problem.

All of the women the media has shortlisted for his selection for Vice President are damaged goods.

Either they did poorly in the primaries (that’s you, Amy Klobuchar), they’re unacceptable to suburbanites (don’t look away, Elizabeth Warren), they’ve got serious baggage (talking to you, Kamela Harris), have zero national experience (yes, you, Stacey Abrams) or America has no idea they’re still in the race (that would be you, Tulsi Gabbard).

There’s really only one smart, gutsy choice for a female Veep if Biden really wants to beat Trump.

Nikki Haley.

The Democratic establishment is falling all over itself to push the idea that Harris, Elizabeth, Klobuchar, Gabbard, or even Abrams should be his choice of running mate.

They are all proven candidates, the argument goes.

Unfortunately, the only thing they have proven is that they know how to lose.

Nikki Haley would be a genius move, a lightning in a bottle, a did-you-see-that, Joe’s-still-got-it kind of choice.

Biden prides himself on his ability to reach across the aisle. Picking Haley would show he means business when it comes to working with the other side.

Haley brings youth, vibrancy, a proven track record, and a ton of charisma.

She has a great immigrant story to tell, since her parents are first-generation Americans, a Sikh family that came from India.

She was the first woman governor of South Carolina and a highly respected ambassador to the United Nations.

So she knows how to govern and she knows how to handle foreign relations.

She would also be a highly respectable insurance policy against Joe’s mental lapses.

Would she do it, you ask. Why not?

She would love to be the first woman President, but right now, she would have to wait up to 12 years — four more of Trump and then up to eight of Mike Pence.

Haley has a history of standing up to Trump when she felt it necessary. And this is a President who doesn’t exactly reward loyalty, as you can learn from Roger Stone, Michael Cohen, Mike Flynn, Sean Spicer, Jeff Sessions, and a host of other people not named (or resembling) Hope Hicks.

So risking Trump’s wrath is perhaps not as costly as one might think.

American voters, moreover, are far less woke then the Democratic establishment would like to believe. When they go into the voting booth, they aren’t trying to fill quotas. They’re trying to choose people who will run the country effectively and acquit themselves well on the world stage.

Haley’s got a plan for that.

I didn’t exactly see any states won by the Democratic female candidates in this election cycle.

They didn’t lose because of sexism. They lost because America saw them for what they were — lacking in the magic that elevates a politician to the level of statesperson.

Plenty of conservatives love what Trump has accomplished and yet are tired of the Trump show. You can only watch this administration with the mute button on for so long. So Haley on the ticket would likely drive a bunch of Republican voters to the polls to vote D.

Anything can happen in election year, including mysterious foreign viruses and stock market crashes. So if Trump were to lose, a whole lot of moderate Democrats and Republicans would be delighted if there were a moderate heading into the Naval Observatory — someone who doesn’t necessarily buy into the radical dogma of free health care, free college, open borders, or other forms of ice cream for breakfast.

Biden and his team may be willing to overlook the considerable baggage that the women who ran for President would drag into the fall campaign. But voters will be far less forgiving of Warren for her faux Native American pose, of Harris for her fierce prosecutions of minorities in California, of Klobuchar’s reported meanness as a boss, and of Gabbard for winning exactly two more delegates than Marianne Williamson.

This isn’t sexism; had Bloomberg’s campaign lasted more than a minute, he would have had to explain in more detail why he was such a creep as a boss, advising pregnant women to abort, and so on.

The Bernie bros may not cotton to Haley, but so what? They were going to sit on the sidelines anyway in November, believing that four more years of Trump would get them closer to a progressive Presidency in 2024. So it’s not as though Biden would have attracted the AOC crowd to his candidacy with any of the women the media is seeking to anoint.

Here’s the deal: Joe Biden has one chance to make history at the Democratic convention, by doing the unconventional thing and running with Nikki Haley.

And that’s no malarkey.
