A year ago, as a 60th birthday present to myself, I wrote a dozen songs about sobriety and recovery from alcoholism, put together a band, went into the studio and recorded the CD, and performed the songs live in concert with the band.

You can hear the songs at https://smichaelgraubart.hearnow.com/ .

One of the attendees at the concert was Tony Williams, creator of the Urban Nutcracker here in Boston and the founder of the City Ballet of Boston.

Tony approached me after the concert and said, “There’s so much addiction in our community. We need to turn the songs into a ballet.”

Well, that’s exactly what we’re doing.

Tony’s dance company runs on a shoestring — okay, a ballet shoe string.

So they’re looking for people who would like to support the ballet we’re creating, which is called “Sober Songs: Recovery In Motion.”

We’re going to do two backers’ performances with five of the songs from Sober Songs.

The shows will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 31 and Sunday, April 7, at Tony’s studio at the Brewery (of all places!), 284 Amory Street, Jamaica Plain.

I’ll be singing live, accompanying the dancers.

I would like to invite you to attend either performance. I’m hoping that you’ll be so inspired by what you see that you’ll want to support the full performances, which are scheduled for late October, 2019 at the Calderwood Pavilion in Boston’s South End.

P.S. No admission fee.

Just please let me know whether you can come, and on which date — Sunday, March 31 or Sunday April 7, at 2 p.m., 284 Amory Street, Jamaica Plain. Call me — 617 543 3747
